Metalsmith Class Offerings
All Metalsmith Classes are Taught at Cotuit Center for the Arts
Join jewelry artists Elisa Sullivan of Swirls Jewelry and Laura Jane Bouton of LjBjewelry in this exciting and challenging class! Students will create stacking rings and bangles. All supplies and tools are included, and there is a lab fee for the metals used in class, payable in cash or check to the instructors at the first class (will vary depending on ring and bangle size) — around $30.
Through observation, classroom demonstration, and lectures, the student will learn about and then create stacking rings and bangles in a studio environment. Students will learn various techniques such as soldering, sawing, annealing, forging, and polishing.
Students will be working with a micro torch, jeweler’s saw, and various hand tools.
Familiarizing with tools and materials that will be used to create rings and bangles.
Practicing sawing and texturing copper metal sheet.
Sawing various shapes to then be used for soldering practice.
Learning how to measure for rings and bangles
Practice various soldering techniques.
Students begin with silver rings, picking the texture design they would like to create.
Twisting and texturing wire to use in their ring or bangle designs.
Continuing with ring or bangle projects. Learning finishing and polishing techniques. Students can also revisit and practice techniques learned in previous classes.
Please wear close-toed shoes and tie your hair back.
